FFXIV: How to Join the Oceania (Materia) Data Center

The new Final Fantasy 14 Materia server is specifically FFXIV Gil made for Oceania. However, there will be no established economy, homes, or raiders at first.

New Oceania servers are coming to Final Fantasy XIV on January 25. This new data center - dubbed Materia - will include five new worlds. By migrating early, FFXIV players may gain server incentives like increased experience points, free transfers, and even complimentary FFXIV subscription time. The five worlds will be completely blank slates on opening day. That means there will be no established cultures for raiding, market board economy, role-playing, or party etiquette. Finding parties may also take longer compared to the other three FFXIV data centers. The main language will likely be English, but others may also become commonplace or even more dominant.

While the new FFXIV servers are specifically designed to service Australia, Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia, it may be a good idea to test out one’s personal connection. This can be done by making an alternate character on Materia and playing Final Fantasy XIV for a few days. Players may discover that ping and packet loss might actually still be better on North Final Fantasy XIV Gil American or Japanese data centers.

All players are welcome to migrate to FFXIV's new Materia servers at no charge while the player population is low. However, this is a one-way trip that will bind characters to the world server for at least 90 days. Additionally, leaving the world will incur the standard $18 USD fee. Once the population reaches Standard level, all immigration to Materia will also cost this amount. These fees will be dropped if the player's current homeworld reaches Congested while the destination is Preferred or New.

How to Make A Free Transfer to Materia in Final Fantasy XIV.

Starting on January 25 around 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time, FFXIV players will be able to apply for migration via the sub-site Mog Station. One or multiple characters can be sent at the same time. The five worlds are all based on Heavensward trials: Bismarck, Ravana, Sephirot, Sophia, and Zurvan.

Homeowners.

Players who either own houses or apartments in Final Fantasy XIV will need to take extra steps to transfer for free. They must remove all of their furnishings from every building and room. These items can either be placed in the estate’s storage or held in player inventory. As this could possibly be more items than a character can hold, even with the two free Final Fantasy XIV retainers, the remaining furnishings will need to be sold. Most importantly, Players should keep all deeds to the land or room, or the entire process will be forfeited.

If done correctly, upon arriving in Materia, players will be awarded gil compensation via the Delivery Moogle. This may not total the full estate value, as Square Enix is only granting players an undisclosed maximum amount of gil. Finally, Materia’s land, houses, and apartments will all be locked until the release of patch 6.1 to allow the population a more level opportunity to buy. This also means that the reduced teleportation fees to homes will be temporally inaccessible.

It is unknown how the individual FFXIV Oceanic servers will develop. Players may find a new stable home on Materia or become homesick for their previous worlds. In the future, Square Enix is planning cross-data-center visitation. At first, this will be limited to the same physical server travel, but, later, it could expand to full region and cross-regional play.
