Before this year, Metro Phoenix was the spot for Super Bowl 30 (1996), Super Bowl 42 (2008) and Super Bowl 49 (2015).The first of the trio took place at Sun Devil Stadium on the Arizona State University campus, with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and the Cowboys defeating the Steelers 27-17.The previous two events took place at the same site as this year's game, but back then, State Farm Stadium was known as University of Phoenix Stadium.
